Robots – An informative guide

Robots

“Robot” comes from the Czech word  robota, meaning“drudgery,” and first appeared in the 1921 play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots). The drama ends with the machines rising up and killing their creators. The first digital and programmable robot was invented by George Devol in 1954 and was named the Unimate. A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids to industrial robots, collectively programmed swarm robots and even microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own.

Types of Robots

A.Based on application

1.Industrial robots

-Robots used in industries for material handling, welding, painting, product inspection, testing.

2.Domestic or household robots

– Robots used for household chores like robotic vacuum cleaners, robotic pool cleaners ,kitchen robots etc.

3.Medical robots

– Robots  that allows surgeons greater access to areas under operation using more precise and less invasive methods.Surgical robots, bio robots, rehabilitation robots etc.

4.Military robots

– Robots used in military operations like bomb disposal robots, different transportation robots, reconnaissance drones.

5.Entertainment robots

– Robots which are mostly used for entertainment purposes.
